Sandwich plate vibrations - An interacting continuum approach (Q1090508)

A symbolic equation governing sandwich plate vibrations has been derived adapting the interacting continuum approach of \textit{T. C. Bache} and \textit{G. A. Hegemier} [e.g. J. Appl. Mech. 41, 423-428 (1974; Zbl 0291.73041)]. It is further shown that the exact frequency equation for harmonic waves in sandwich plates obtained by \textit{P. C. Y. Lee} and \textit{N. Chang} [J. Elasticity 9, 51-69 (1979; Zbl 0399.73064)] can be recovered as a special case of the present general equation. The present theory is also compared with the exact theory in the case of symmetric SH waves.
