The author suggests that microelectronics would be a fruitful source for investigation by applied mathematics. Amongst the problems which are discussed are the following: kinematic models and the transport equation, the transformation of laser emissions into soft X-rays, diffusion problems involving drift, the viscous fluid equations. He refers to various papers which discuss these matters, but there is no analysis in the paper, which is almost entirely descriptive.
