The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm for parameter estimation by regularization and spline approximation for two-phase petroleum reservoirs. It is considered a two-phase water-oil reservoir which has a sufficiently large areal extent so that the pressure change and hence flow in the vertical direction is negligible compared to flow in the other two directions. The paper shows that regularized estimation is more stable and insensitive to the choice of initial guess and compared to nonregularized conventional estimation.
