The pulsatile flow of blood in an artery regarded as a thin-walled cylindrical shell of nonlinear, anisotropic, viscoelastic, incompressible material is considered. A simple solution of the shell equations is obtained by assuming that the deformation may be regarded as a small displacement superimposed on a large one. The Navier-Stokes equations are assumed for the fluid and these are solved by finite differences and matched to the solutions for the shell. Extensive numerical results for flow in a canine middle descending thoracic aorta are presented in graphical form.
