In this paper the estimation of parameters in nonlinear regression models is converted into the problem of maximizing an a posteriori probability density and determining its mode. To develop an adaptive method for parameter estimation and error distribution, beta prior and generalized exponential error distributions are used. Practical applications of the methods suggested are discussed and programs for a desk top computer are described.
