The paper deals with the numerical solution of a model problem describing the elastic deformation of a beam in contact with the elastic obstacle. The mathematical problem is written in the form of a variational inequality, or in the alternative form of a nonlinear boundary value problem which makes use of Padé approximations. Some error analysis is given, and numerical testing is conducted.
