A higher-order approximation theory for the internal solitary waves with a free surface was presented. The method of strained coordinates was used to avoid the secular terms. The third-order approximation for the evolution equation of interface has been obtained. Several numerical experiments were performed by using the fast Fourier transform technique and least square method.
