The components of the viscous forces, the rate of work done by them, and the dissipation function are written for non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. It is shown that the number of the resulting terms can substantially be reduced, if one coordinate is chosen in the direction of the main streamline and if the order of magnitude of the various terms is analysed.
