Sufficient and necessary conditions are derived under which the interpolating quadratic and exponential splines are convex and monotone if the data set is convex and monotone. For quadratic splines the problem may not be solvable, but for the more general exponential splines, if the parameters occurring are chosen appropriately. As convex and monotone spline interpolants are in general not uniquely determined, the authors state a strategy for selecting one. Some test results are given.
