The author generalizes a result due to \textit{K. de Leeuw} and \textit{Y. Katznelson} [J. Anal. Math. 11, 207-219 (1963; Zbl 0123.309)] and others. It is shown that if a continuous but non-analytic function on an open subset of the complex plane operates by composition on a C1A- ultraseparating Banach function algebra A over a compact Hausdorff space X, then \(A=C(X)\).
