Computer algorithms for fitting empirical formulas are described. The main idea is to transform both the independent and dependent variables by means of some nonlinear transformations listed in the paper to get a ``simple'' functional dependence, for example, a polynomial, which parameters are determined by the least squares method. A brief description of an interactive formula fitting system is given on a flow- chart level. The paper gives rather an engineer design than a scientific investigation.
