Diffraction of an acoustic wave by an infinitely long circular cylinder (Q1092757)

By using the method of integral transformations a new form of an exact analytic solution is constructed for the familiar problem of the diffraction of an acoustic wave by a rigid immobile circular cylinder. The solution is formulated as an expansion in the angular coordinate on a variable time interval, making it applicable to studies of the initial diffraction period. On the basis of these results, an approximate solution of the problem is constructed which coincides asymptotically with the exact solution for small and large times.
