Let C be an invariant class of \(n\times n\) matrices over a finite field. A method is described to calculate the probability that a product of \(\ell\) matrices chosen at random will belong to C. The method is then applied to several classes C: matrices of given trace or determinant, matrices with given characteristic polynomial, diagonalizable matrices.
