The author tries to understand the geometric prequantization of Maxwell equations in a vacuum; its connection with Kostant-Souriau geometric prequantization of the extended phase space is pointed out. The author starts from the notion of reduced phase space introduced by J. E. Marsden, A. Weinstein and K. R. Meyer. The connection of the author's results with results of M. J. Gotay is indicated as well.
