An approximate method is proposed to determine the state of stress near a curvilinear hole whose outline is partially reinforced by a thin elastic rod of variable cross-section in an infinite plate. The problem is reduced to a system of two singular integral equations in the contact stresses by the method of complex-function theory, and the method of boundary collocation is used to solve them. Certain special cases of the problem and numerical examples are examined.
