Conservation laws and growth of discontinuities in a reactive polytropic gas (Q1093462)

This paper treats thin detonation waves in a shock tube. It is shown how to formulate model equations as a symmetric hyperbolic system in conservation form. Thus, the Cauchy problem is well posed. The paper ends with a study of the growth of weak discontinuities (i.e., jumps in first derivatives) and the formation of shock waves.
