Arterial blood flow is modelled by laminar flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a slightly tapered long leaking elastic tube of circular cross-section under conditions of axial symmetry. The full basic equations are written down and an approximate set obtained by assuming that the radius of the artery is much less than its length. By taking the space average these equations are reduced to a pair of non-linear ordinary differential equations. The stability of the resulting equations is investigated and some numerical results are presented in graphical form.
