Since the concentrations of substrate indicator \(C_ S\), and an unextracted vascular reference indicator \(C_ R\), contain information about the capillary transit times of the indicator exiting the organ at a particular time, the function \(L(t)=\ln [C_ R(t)/C_ S(t)]\) is considered as the link between experimental data and the perfusion kinematics of the organ. The authors derived a formula which expresses the experimental L(t) data in terms of the mean \(\mu\) (t) and variance of the transit times of those capillaries which are contributing indicators at each sample time t, under several kinematic assumptions.
