Some results concerning controllability of implicit linear discrete-time system of the form \(Ex_{k+1}=Fx_ k+Gu_ k\) are given. It is not assumed that the corresponding pencil [sE-F] is regular. The concept of (\({\mathcal X}_ I,{\mathcal X}_ F)\)-controllability is defined, and it is shown that it generalizes various definitions of controllability used in the existing literature of the subject. Computable geometric conditions for an implicit system to be (\({\mathcal X}_ I,{\mathcal X}_ F)\)-controllable are given. Some particular cases are discussed. The existence of a universal time of controllability is also proven.
