The authors consider an initial-boundary value problem which involves Burgers' equation and which describes an unsteady state viscous gas- dynamical problem. The governing equations of the corresonding steady- state problem are also taken into account. The convergence of the solutions of the unsteady problem, in the time variable, to that of the corresponding steady problem is shown. The speed of the convergence depends on the boundary conditions and may be exponentially slow. Methods to speed up the convergence are discussed.
