Various formulations are considered for the problem of designing control systems having preassigned properties. Necessary and sufficient conditions of solvability of the design problem are obtained for each of the formulations. The design of a dynamic control system is studied by taking into account the requirement that the control-loop and the closed- loop system must be physically realizable, and that each locally specified performance of the closed-loop system can be extended to a globally specified performance. As an example, these conditions are illustrated for a deterministic dynamic plant.
