A continuous homomorphism between Lie groups is \(C^{\infty}\). In this note it is shown that a continuous homomorphism between \(C^{\infty}\)- monoids is \(C^{\infty}\) on certain open sets near the identity. In work soon to appear the reviewer has extended this result to full neighbourhoods of the identity.
