A slight extension of \textit{S. E. Cappell}'s results on Mayer-Vietoris sequences in L-theory [Invent. Math. 33, 69-170 (1976; Zbl 0348.57017)] is used to prove that the unitary Whitehead groups \(S_ n(K(\pi,1))\) vanish if \(\pi\) is the fundamental group of a locally finite graph of finitely generated free abelian groups.
