The authors first introduce a class of simple rational splines which have analogous properties to those of polynomial B-splines. They consider an application of the above ones to twice continuously differentiable monotonic interpolation for given monotonic data. They remark that the monotonic quadratic spline interpolation method by \textit{E. Passow} [J. Approx. Theory 19, 143-147 (1977; Zbl 0361.41005)] coincides with their method under a certain extreme case.
