The partial donor cell method (PDM) as described here mixes a second- order scheme with the donor cell scheme. It keeps transported quantities monotone and minimizes diffusion. The PDM scheme in conjunction with a central difference scheme for the numerical solution of the hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic equation has been used for a variety of problems. This scheme has been proven to be quite robust and can resolve contact discontinuities quite well. Several results of numerical simulations are presented.
