Recently \textit{D. A. Lauffenburger} [Biotechnol. Progr. 1, 53-59 (1985)] has proposed a growth model of colicin plasmid-bearing Escherichia coli in continuous culture and analyzed the stability of steady states, assuming pseudo-steady states for chemical substances. In the present paper the topological characteristics of steady states as well as the bifurcation of steady states caused by change in the dilution rate are analyzed. The results obtained will be useful for determining the preferable operating condition and control strategy of the system.
