The famous work of Toeplitz in summability theory gives necessary and sufficient conditions for an infinite matrix \(A=(a_{m,n})\) of real (or complex numbers) numbers to be regular. The original proof is given in Hardy's divergent series. The authors give a new proof of the Toeplitz theorem based on a result of the first author [Bull. Acad. Polon. Sci., Ser. Math. Astron. Phys. 24, 855-859 (1976; Zbl 0342.40004)].
