Main aim of the authors is to define a class of fuzzy sets, called \(\Pi\)- fuzzy sets, whose membership values are in a linearly ordered lattice \(\Pi\) such that the unit interval I is a sublattice of \(\Pi\) and there exists a suitable equivalence relation R for which the quotient lattice \(\Pi\) /R is isomorphic to I. Several results are proved.
