[Part I cf. ibid. 104, 310-328 (1986; Zbl 0606.20038.] Let \(S_ R(n,r)\) be the Schur algebra over a principal ideal domain R. The author proves that the socles of certain Weyl modules are irreducible. Over a complete valuation ring or a field every Young module for a symmetric group has a Specht series. In these cases Nakayama's conjecture applies to the blocks of the Schur algebra.
