A model is proposed for predicting the reliability of a test procedure where simple and exact tests are combined so as to minimize the number of costly and time-consuming tests. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the necessary parameters, such as the actual number of abnormal units in a multi-unit system under test, and the probabilities of correctly and incorrectly identifying a unit as abnormal.
