It is proved that the fixed modes in a continuous-time decentralized control system can be eliminated by the use of sampling. The main result is that if the non-zero fixed mode m of a strongly connected system is a cyclic eigenvalue of the system matrix, then the corresponding mode exp(mT) is not a fixed mode of the discrete system for almost all sampling times T.
