A generalization of the theory of materials of type N to continuum damage mechanics is presented. Then algorithm developed earlier by the authors for plasticity problems [Int. J. Eng. Sci. 22, 1235-1257 (1984; Zbl 0563.73028) and 23, 515-530 (1985; Zbl 0592.73051)] are extended and applied to the analysis of progressive damage of materials under large elastoplastic deformation. Results obtained by applying these methods to representative problems of metal forming are presented.
