The main result in this paper says that every Hilbert space is a flat module over a nest algebra operating in it. This result implies a part of known results of \textit{J. P. Nielsen} [Math. Scand. 47, 150-156 (1980; Zbl 0459.46046)] and \textit{E. C. Lance} [Proc. London Math. Soc., III. Ser. 43, 334-356 (1981; Zbl 0477.47030)] about the triviality of the cohomology group of a nest algebra, and also has some other consequences.
