A theorem on common fixed points for a family of mappings defined on a convex metric space is presented. The assumptions involve weak commutative and contractive assumptions on the mappings as well as assumptions about their behavior on the boundary of the domain. The principal result is a very technical generalization of a result of \textit{N. A. Assad} and the reviewer [Pac. J. Math. 43, 553-562 (1972; Zbl 0239.54032)].
