The main results of the paper are the following: a) It is proved that given any f-ring K (respectively lattice ordered Lie algebra L) and any variety V of lattice ordered rings (resp. Lie algebras) there exists a largest \(\ell\)-ideal in the ring K (resp. in the Lie algebra L) which lies in the variety V. b) A new proof is suggested for the orderability of the free product of ordered Lie algebras.
