A cluster analysis model is proposed in which the initial object- attribute matrix is formed by sums of ``contributions'' of different clusters. The relationships of this model are similar to the relationships of the principal components model. A technique of successive projection in ``matrix'' spaces is developed for the construction of principal clusters. ``Compactness'' of the principal clusters is proved. A locally optimal and an exact algorithm are given for constructing principal clusters.
