The author investigates spatially extended systems with nonlocal dynamics in the neighbourhood of a stationary and uniform state. Using a multiple- scale perturbation theory, he establishes an amplitude equation and shows that the uniform state can bifurcate supercritically into a stationary state of a spatial amplitude-modulated fast oscillation. A numerical example in a particular case is also given.
