The author proves general variational formulas for the equiaffine curvature functions. As application he gives a new proof for the equiaffine Minkowski integral formulas [cf. the reviewer, Math. Ann. 173, 307-321 (1967; Zbl 0153.230); \textit{C. C. Hsiung} and \textit{J. K. Shahin}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 17, 715-735 (1967; Zbl 0173.233)] and a characterization of the ellipsoid.
