For certain complex projective varieties X with isolated singularities, the ``canonical'' mixed Hodge structure on their middle intersection homology is shown to coincide with the one induced by \(L_ 2\)- cohomology, for instance if X is the Baily-Borel-Satake compactification of the arithmetic quotient of a unit ball in complex space.
