The author establishes the regularity of weakly harmonic maps of a domain in \({\mathbb{R}}^ N\) (N\(\geq 3)\) into certain ellipsoids. Also: For x in the open disc \(B^ N\) the equator map \(u_*(x)=x/| x|\) is the unique minimizing map iff the eccentricity of the ellipsoid is suitably large.
