Two nonlinear boundary value problems for steady, one-dimensional flow between parallel plates are considered. The authors study a discrete- velocity model with non-zero velocities assuming that, in one case, the boundaries emit particles into the region occupied by the fluid with given distribution. In the other case, the boundaries emit particles with a distribution that is given modulo a factor that is used to ensure that no net flow through the boundaries occurs. The authors prove an existence result with no restriction on the size of the data. The method uses Leray-Schauder fixed-point theory. A uniqueness theorem for small data is proved.
