The author has given a generalized result of a well-known theorem of queuing theory due to Burke. This theorem states the equality of state distributions at arrival and departure epoches, provided that the system state varies by unit jumps. The generalized result is related to a class of bulk systems where arrivals occur in groups of random size or departures in groups of fixed size. For the system stated above, the author has given a relation between state distributions at arrival and departure epoches, under quite general conditions.
