The author shows that the iterative algorithm of Mangasarian for solving linear complementarity problems can be extended to nonlinear complementary problems consisting in finding \(u\in R^ n\) such that \(u\geq 0\), \(Tu+A(u)\geq 0\), \((u,Tu+A(u))=0\), where T is a continuous mapping and A is a nonlinar operator from \(R^ n\) into itself. Sufficient conditions are established for the convergence of the iterative sequence. Some applications are discussed.
