Identification for the generating units to be equipped with stabilizers in a multimachine power system (Q1106174)

A new and reliable sequential procedure for stabilization of a multimachine power system is proposed. The response of the free system is represented as a sum of modal terms, specifying the contribution of each mode on the response. A new measure of the influence of a stabilizing action, taking into account all the effects of a mode on the response, is used to identify the most effective unit to be equipped with the stabilizer. After identifying one generating unit and applying its stabilizer, the next unit is identified by considering the previously identified units with stabilizers. Application of the procedure is then made to show the efficacy of the approach in damping power system oscillations.
