The author uses the invariance of the topological degree under homotopy of the grid to obtain qualitative information about those numerical solutions of the nonlinear eigenvalue problem \(u''+\lambda f(u)=0,\quad u(-1)=u(1)=0\) which do not approximate genuine solutions of the continuous problem.
