Algorithms for adaptive pole assignment for a class of single- input/single-output linear systems are proposed. Pole-zero cancellation of the estimates is avoided by introducing a finite number of special inputs. A weak form of self-tuning is derived without imposing conditions on the richness of the signals. It is shown that the asymptotic behavior of the system equals the behavior we would have obtained on the basis of knowledge of the true system.
