Bounds are derived for Wasserstein type distances between the sum of independent non-identically distributed binomial random variables and approximating Poisson distributions. The bounds based on coupling arguments and on semigroup-techniques are sharp and of order O(\(\sum p^ 2_ i)\) if max \(p_ i\to 0\) and \(\sum p_ i\) is bounded.
