This is the first attempt to apply linear programming in discriminant analysis for predicting the service life of inspected units. The separating surface is modelled using the time t as a factor. This leads to a composite model which represents the dependence of the separating surface on both the time and the controlled parameter vector X. This model extends the scope of discriminant analysis so that, in addition to a ``rough'' state prediction, we can now obtain a ``point'' estimate of the product service life.
