The author regards this note as a complement to a paper of \textit{H. Werner} [ibid. 25, 181-191 (1980; Zbl 0419.65005)] who extended Newton's classical interpolation formula for algebraic polynomials to the interpolation on subsets of rectangular grids. Here generalized polynomials of several variables are treated. Recursive procedures are presented which use generalized divided differences. Some proofs of H. Werner's paper are simplified.
