An optimization technique has been applied to simple-pendulum measurements for improved period estimation. Preliminary experiments have demonstrated that the method is capable of precisions better than a few parts per million. State variables of the estimation process assume quadratic dependence of period on amplitude. The undriven pendulum is also assumed to decay exponentially from an initial amplitude which typically is about 5 degrees.
